Serafim: A Young Voice, Between Tradition, Memory, and Music, The Story of a Moldovan Musical Legacy
In a world where music evolves at a rapid pace, there are still young artists who choose to look inward, toward the roots that shaped their identity. Serafim, a young performer of traditional folk music from the Republic of Moldova, is one of those rare voices who carries his heritage with pride and authenticity.

Serafim is a young interpreter of folk music from the Republic of Moldova. He is eighteen years old, and his passion has been with him since childhood. For him, music is not just an art form but a cultural legacy that deserves to be preserved and carried forward with respect. His voice, still young yet already rich in emotion, tells the story of a boy who chose to devote himself entirely to the folklore and traditions of his people.
When did you realize you wanted to become a singer?
At just eight years old, Serafim understood that music was not a simple activity but the path he wanted to follow. He began his studies at the School of Arts in Ialoveni, where he discovered the instruments that would shape his artistic sensitivity: the accordion, the piano, and all the fundamental musical disciplines. It was there, among classes, rehearsals, and the first emotions of being on stage, that his dream was born.
Serafim’s relationship with music has always been nurtured by the people who believed in him from the very beginning. His parents and teachers recognized in him a sincere talent and a genuine desire to grow, offering the kind of support that gives a young artist the courage to step into the world of music with confidence and determination. At just eight years old, Serafim realized that music was not a simple activity but the path he wanted to follow. He began his studies at the School of Arts in Ialoveni, where he discovered the instruments that would shape his artistic sensitivity: the accordion, the piano and all the fundamental musical disciplines that helped him understand the depth and structure of every melody. Over the years, his dedication has grown into a style defined by sincerity, authenticity and a heartfelt way of interpreting both folk music and party music. These two directions allow him to express emotion, joy and a profound respect for Moldovan traditions. Every song becomes a story, a lived moment, a bridge between generations. The discipline learned in school, the hours spent practicing and the first emotions on stage have shaped not only his technique but also the way he connects with his audience. Today, Serafim’s music is more than performance. It is a commitment to preserving the cultural memory of his people and giving it new life through his voice, with the same passion that has accompanied him since childhood.
Which artists do I admire, and why are they important in my journey?
I admire Gabriel Nebunu, Adriana Ochișanu and Mariana Mihăilă, artists who have succeeded in preserving the authenticity of Moldovan folklore and carrying it forward with professionalism and grace. Their work shows how tradition can remain alive when treated with respect and dedication, and this balance between heritage and modern expression has always inspired me. For me, they are true reference points. I see in them not only accomplished performers, but models of integrity, discipline and devotion to the audience. Their ability to honor tradition while giving it new life has shaped my own understanding of what it means to sing with sincerity and purpose. Through their example, I have learned that music is not just performance. It is a responsibility toward the cultural memory of my people, a way to connect generations and keep stories alive through emotion and authenticity.

As time goes by, Serafim has begun to understand more deeply the value of his role as a young performer. Being a folk artist today also means carrying the responsibility of representing a culture that risks being forgotten. He chooses instead to protect it, to study it, to respect it and to bring it to younger generations through a language that remains faithful to its origins while still speaking to the present. During the interview, Serafim explains that many of his inspirations come from moments lived in his village, from traditional celebrations, from evenings where music brings people together and creates a sense of community. These are images that stay with him, that turn into melodies, that become emotions to share. For him, folk music is never just entertainment. It is a way to remember who we are, where we come from and which values have shaped us. What stands out most is his ability to observe and learn. Serafim is someone who listens, who absorbs what surrounds him and transforms it into artistic expression. Every experience, every encounter, every event becomes part of his journey. Even the challenges, which he does not hide, have made him more determined. Balancing school, rehearsals, concerts and personal commitments has taught him that discipline is one of the essential keys to growing in the world of art. His young age is not a limit but a strength. Serafim carries the enthusiasm of his eighteen years, an enthusiasm that emerges in his voice, in his gestures, in the way he stands on stage. He is an artist who lives every moment intensely, who is not afraid to show his sensitivity and who sees music as a gift to be shared with those who listen. This authenticity is what sets him apart. He does not try to imitate anyone, nor does he chase trends. He remains faithful to what he feels, to what represents him, to what made him fall in love with music as a child. And it is precisely this sincerity that allows him to create a special bond with his audience, a bond that grows concert after concert, song after song. Alongside music, Serafim cultivates another form of expression that reveals his attention to detail and his aesthetic sensitivity. He works as a stylist in the beauty sector, where he cuts hair for women and men and creates hairstyles for ladies with a care that is surprising for his age. This work allows him to develop precision, creativity and an attentive eye for form, qualities that also emerge in his presence on stage. In his daily life, the contact with people and the conversations that arise while shaping a haircut or a hairstyle become part of his human experience and enrich his artistic vision. For Serafim, beauty and music share the same root: the ability to transform something simple into something that moves.
